A consortium of German and African research projects, funded by the BMBF, is developing a blueprint for Sustainable Land Management (SLM) in sub-Saharan Africa, with a focus on ecological, economic, and social aspects, including gender equity. Two workshops were held in Northern Ghana at the UDS campus, organized by INTERFACES, COINS, and DecLaRe projects. These workshops aimed to address land use challenges, promote participatory learning, and develop a gender-responsive theory of change. Key issues discussed included land access for women, legal frameworks, climate change, and soil degradation. Traditional authorities' roles in land distribution were also examined, with insights from local chiefs. The workshops also included field visits to showcase successful agricultural interventions. Stakeholders emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to food security, ecological integrity, equitable resource access, and effective conflict resolution. Recommendations included comprehensive land-use planning, formalizing land tenancy, and changing local norms to support sustainable land management.
