Check FAQAbout Martin
Martin Bertrand is a photojournalist and documentary photographer who started out at Agence France Presse and is now represented by Hans Lucas. As a photojournalist, he has been able to travel the world to document the geo-environmental and geopolitical issues of our time. During 2017 and 2018, he carried out a number of projects in South-East Asia, where he was able to work for seven months. Using the mythical Mekong River and its resources as a common thread, he put into perspective the ecological issues linked to development in the Indochinese peninsula (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand). This work resulted in the book Mékong - Écoportrait, published by Éditions Intervalles. In 2019, he travelled to Hong Kong to cover, among other things, the uprising of the pro-democracy movement, for which he was nominated for the Bayeux Prize for War Correspondents. In 2021, he documented the disastrous consequences of climate change in Bangladesh and the migration it was causing. In 2022, he was able to travel around Iraq alongside teams from the NGO Handicap International to document the reconstruction of the country following the occupation by the Islamic State and the consequences of explosive remnants of war. In 2024, he also travelled to Chad to visit the refugee camps in Sudan's civil war, the biggest humanitarian crisis in terms of the number of displaced people. Martin is also interested in the challenges facing Europe, particularly the political ones. He has travelled extensively across the continent, living in countries such as the Netherlands, Greece and Belgium. He has documented the politics and issues that run through our European societies. More specifically, he also work as a political photographer in Brussels for the three European institutions: the European Parliament, the European Commission and the European Council.
