Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men and a leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. This study investigates gene expression and DNA methylation in circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and plasma-derived exosomes as prognostic markers in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). The research highlights the potential of liquid biopsy for real-time monitoring of cancer progression and treatment response. Key findings include the significant association of certain gene expressions and DNA methylation markers with lower overall survival rates and higher death risks in mCRPC patients. The study underscores the diagnostic value of CTCs and exosomes in prostate cancer.

Adenocarcinoma, a type of prostate cancer, develops in the prostate gland, part of the male reproductive system. Prostate cancer is common among men, especially those over 80, and is often slow-growing. Risk factors include age, genetics, diet, obesity, and certain prostate conditions. Symptoms can be asymptomatic in early stages but may include urinary and ejaculation issues, bone pain, and frequent fractures in advanced stages. Diagnosis involves medical history, PSA blood tests, imaging techniques, and biopsies. Treatment varies by stage and may include surgery, radiotherapy, hormone therapy, and chemotherapy. Preventive measures focus on a healthy lifestyle and regular screenings.

Prostate Cancer in Latinos in the US: Why Prevention Remains a Challenge
21 Nov 2024
|
www.vozdeamerica.com
|
Spanish
| Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is a prevalent health issue among Latino men in the United States, with over 13,000 new cases annually. Despite its high incidence, early diagnosis and treatment are hindered by barriers such as healthcare access disparities, cultural stigmas, and socioeconomic differences. Research indicates that Latinos of Caribbean origin have higher incidence rates compared to those of Mexican descent. Cultural factors and healthcare system differences contribute to varied survival rates between US-born and foreign-born Latinos. Early detection through PSA tests and digital rectal exams is crucial, yet participation rates are lower among Latino men. Treatment approaches differ, with foreign-born Latinos more likely to undergo surgery. The article emphasizes the importance of education and communication to overcome stigmas and improve early detection and treatment outcomes.

The study investigates the impact of centralization of cancer services on the treatment of high-risk prostate cancer patients within the English NHS. It finds that approximately one-third of such patients do not receive radical treatment, with older patients, those with comorbidities, and those from socially deprived areas being less likely to receive treatment. The study concludes that travel time to treatment facilities does not significantly affect treatment receipt, suggesting equitable access across the NHS. However, it highlights existing inequalities in treatment utilization among socially deprived, elderly, and ethnic minority groups. The study calls for further research to address these disparities and improve access for vulnerable populations.

He emphasizes the need for tailored approaches in diagnosis, treatment, and post-treatment care for older men. Treatment options for older men are outlined, including active monitoring, surgery, radiotherapy, and hormone therapy, with the choice depending on the individual's health and life expectancy. Preventive measures such as maintaining a healthy weight, regular exercise, balanced diet, and avoiding smoking and alcohol are also suggested. The article underscores the importance of personalized care for older men to improve their quality of life and overall well-being.

Prostate cancer is a significant global health concern, particularly in Africa where mortality rates are high due to late diagnosis. In Egypt, a health belief model-based educational intervention significantly improved knowledge, perceptions, and preventive practices regarding prostate cancer among men aged 45-75. The study, conducted at Alexandria Main University Hospital, showed that participants' intentions to undergo screening increased dramatically post-intervention. The intervention program, which included educational materials and sessions, was effective in sustaining positive outcomes for three months. Higher education and income levels were associated with better knowledge and practices. The study highlights the importance of tailored health education and the role of collaborative efforts by organizations like the American Cancer Society and Egyptian Urology Association in promoting prostate cancer awareness and prevention.

Radiomic Pipelines for Prostate Cancer in External Beam Radiation Therapy: A Review of Methods and Future Directions

| Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer, often asymptomatic in early stages, is treated using External Beam Radiotherapy (EBRT), which is effective but has a recurrence rate of 17.4% to 39.4%. Radiomics, which involves quantitative analysis of medical images, is emerging as a tool to predict treatment outcomes in prostate cancer. This review analyzed 73 studies on radiomics in the context of EBRT, highlighting the use of imaging modalities like MRI, CT, PET, and Ultrasound. The studies often used small, homogeneous datasets lacking external validation. Future research should focus on creating large, multicentric datasets and standardized methodologies to fully realize the potential of radiomics in clinical practice.

Body composition in recurrent prostate cancer and the role of steroidogenic genotype

Research investigates the impact of hormone therapy on body composition in men with biochemically recurrent prostate cancer, focusing on the role of inherited polymorphisms in steroidogenic genes. The study finds that hormone therapy leads to significant skeletal muscle loss and increased subcutaneous adipose tissue. Notably, men with type 2 diabetes experience greater skeletal muscle loss. Specific genetic polymorphisms, such as SRD5A2 rs523349 and HSD3B1 rs104703, are linked to variations in muscle density and adipose tissue, suggesting a genetic contribution to body composition changes during hormone therapy.
