Why the Adani Group will continue to grapple with Hindenburg fallout
22 May 2023  |  The National  |  English  |  Fraud Allegations
The article discusses the ongoing challenges faced by the Adani Group following allegations of fraud by Hindenburg Research. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is conducting an investigation, with its findings expected by August 14. The Adani Group has denied the allegations and is taking steps to reassure investors, including repaying debts and deferring expansion plans. Despite these efforts, the group's stock market value has suffered significantly. The Supreme Court has granted SEBI an extension to complete its investigation, which is seen as a test of India's institutional integrity. Analysts believe SEBI's findings will be crucial in determining the future investor sentiment towards Adani Group. Meanwhile, the group is seeking to raise funds through Qualified Institutional Placement to support its operations and expansion plans.

Liberia Supreme Court Postpones Presidential Run-off
06 Nov 2017  |  Voice of America  |  English  |  Electoral Fraud Allegations
Liberia's Supreme Court has postponed the presidential run-off election, which was scheduled to occur less than 24 hours from the time of the ruling. The delay is to allow the National Electoral Commission (NEC) to address a complaint by the Liberty Party, which alleged fraud and irregularities in the first round of voting on October 10. The Liberty Party's candidate, Charles Brumskine, who finished third, and other parties, including the Unity Party, have supported the complaint. The NEC has been given 30 days to resolve the issue before a new date for the run-off can be set. The court's decision emphasizes the importance of the rule of law and the integrity of the electoral process in Liberia.

Acadia Healthcare: A Dive Into The Behavioral Healthcare Abyss
12 Nov 2018  |  Seeking Alpha  |  English  |  Healthcare fraud
The article is an investigative report on Acadia Healthcare and the broader behavioral healthcare industry, highlighting insider trading, regulatory failures, and patient safety concerns. It details how Acadia's insiders, including former CEO Joey Jacobs and founder Reeve W. Waud, sold off large amounts of stock, raising questions about insider knowledge and the company's financial stability. The report covers the history of the industry's growth, driven by federal laws mandating insurance coverage for substance abuse treatment, which led to a gold rush mentality and subsequent exploitation. It also discusses the decline in quality of care at Acadia-owned facilities, citing numerous allegations of patient abuse, understaffing, and fraud. The article suggests that Acadia is facing financial difficulties, with high debt and challenges in expanding or improving its facilities. It concludes with concerns about the impact on patients and the potential for a private equity buyout of the company.

George Santos, a Republican congressman-elect, is accused by a Brazilian former shop clerk, Bruno Simões, of defrauding him out of more than $1,300 using stolen checks in 2008. The article investigates the Muslim Entrepreneur Network (MEN) and its associated investment scheme, the Leverage Program, which was launched by east London businessmen and later involved Canadian venture capitalists Rafaqat “Rocky” Mirza and Aziz “Com” Mirza. The scheme, which promised financial returns on investments, is alleged to have failed to deliver and resulted in millions of pounds being transferred to various companies globally. Many investors, including those from Barking and Dagenham, Tower Hamlets, and Newham, claim they have been misled and are seeking refunds. The investigation reveals that large sums were moved to accounts in Dubai and other locations, and that a related venture, Empty Trip, also involved significant financial transactions. ‘Doctored’ court transcripts take centre stage in businessman’s trial
12 Sept 2023  |  www.thestandard.co.zw  |  English  |  Fraud Allegations
Prominent property developer George Katisemberis alleges serious anomalies in the transcripts of his ongoing fraud trial, claiming they were manipulated to influence the outcome. Katisemberis, accused of forging a plan for a house built for Ken Sharpe’s Pokugara Properties, seeks to refer the case to the Constitutional Court, arguing his rights were violated. His lawyer, Tino Chinyoka, contends the transcripts were tampered with, questioning the completeness, accuracy, and fairness of the trial. The doctored transcripts allegedly misrepresent statements, attribute prosecution remarks to defense lawyers, and omit key dates and information, including mentions of Sharpe’s aide Tatiana Aleshina. The discrepancies include court sessions appearing to be held on Sundays and significant reductions in transcript length, raising concerns about the integrity of the legal process.
