01 Oct 2023  |  ComputerWeekly.com  |  English  |  Data Integration
The article emphasizes that data integration is primarily a people problem rather than just a technological challenge. It highlights the importance of a data-driven culture, where data is treated as a shared corporate asset. Appointing a Chief Data Officer (CDO) with authority and people skills is crucial for building this culture. STOA meets its International Advisory Board to discuss the Artificial Intelligence Act
21 Apr 2021  |  Epthinktank  |  English  |  AI Governance
The European Commission's Artificial Intelligence Act (AIA), published on April 21, 2021, is a legislative proposal aiming to regulate artificial intelligence applications across the EU. It introduces a risk-based approach, banning 'unacceptable risk' applications, imposing additional requirements on 'high-risk' ones, and enforcing transparency on others like chatbots and deep fakes. The AIA also suggests voluntary codes of conduct for 'low or minimal risk' applications and proposes a European AI Board and regulatory sandboxes to encourage innovation. STOA's International Advisory Board (INAB) convened to discuss the AIA, with members generally supporting the proposal but noting areas for further reflection, such as the list-based approach to defining AI and high-risk applications, governance and enforcement concerns, conformity assessment challenges, and consumer protection issues. The AIA is now in the negotiation phase between the European Parliament and the Council.

'Agile governance' could redesign policy on data protection. Here's why that matters
01 May 2022  |  www.weforum.org  |  English  |  Data Protection
Technology regulation is evolving rapidly but remains fragmented across national and regional divides. Agile governance can address this issue by creating a more adaptive approach to regulation. The EU's GDPR has inspired similar efforts globally, but regulatory fragmentation persists, leading to inconsistent data protection and challenges for firms and governments. Agile governance, inspired by agile software development, promotes proactive, inclusive, and iterative policy design. However, it faces constraints such as limited policy space, stakeholder engagement, and trade-offs. Overcoming these constraints is essential to reap the benefits of agile governance in technology regulation.

Definition of Email Governance
27 Feb 2022  |  ComputerWeekly.com  |  German  |  Email Governance
Email governance involves managing the use of email systems within a company, addressing critical aspects such as cybersecurity, compliance, data protection, and risk management. It helps protect against threats like malware and ensures preparedness for legal disputes. Policies should cover personal use, prohibited content, and handling of confidential information, considering regulations like GDPR and GoBD. Leadership and relevant departments should collaboratively design these policies, supported by IT through technical implementations and tools. Compliance audits ensure adherence to these guidelines.

Getting Board Buy-In for Cyber Security
19 Apr 2022  |  www.techerati.com  |  English  |  Corporate Governance
High-profile cyber security incidents underscore the importance of making cyber security a priority for businesses. Despite the known risks, many organizations struggle to get corporate boards to fully commit to comprehensive cyber security measures. The average cost of a data breach is nearly $4 million, making proactive cyber security actions financially beneficial. Effective communication with board members, focusing on bottom-line benefits and operational improvements, is crucial. Educating board members on best practices and compliance issues, such as GDPR, can shift their perspective from viewing cyber security as a cost to seeing it as an investment.
