On SOG notice, Shekhawat says ‘already shared all required information with them’
10 Oct 2023  |  Hindustan Times  |  English  |  Legal Investigation
Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat responded to a notice from the Special Operations Group (SOG) regarding the Rs. 900 crore Sanjivani Multistate Credit Cooperative Society scam, asserting that he has already provided all required information. Shekhawat claims the investigation is politically motivated by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who has repeatedly accused him of involvement in the scam. Shekhawat denies any ambition to contest elections unless directed by his party, BJP. The SOG's investigation, initiated in 2019, has led to the arrest of six office bearers of the society. Shekhawat has sought to transfer the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation and has filed a defamation case against Gehlot.

Heat Wave, Poverty, No MGNREGA Funds: What's Plaguing West Bengal's Sabar Tribe?
05 Jul 2023  |  www.thequint.com  |  English  |  Tribal Issues
The Sabar tribe in West Bengal's West Medinipur district faces severe hardships due to extreme poverty, a heat wave, and the suspension of MGNREGA funds. The community, already economically backward, struggles with limited livelihood opportunities and inadequate healthcare. The suspension of MGNREGA funds, prompted by corruption allegations, has exacerbated their financial distress. The state government provides ration supplies, but villagers claim it is insufficient. The harsh summer and severe heat wave have further worsened their living conditions, leading to health issues and deaths in the village.
