Yihsuan Lu is a journalist based in Taipei, Taiwan. I am a correspondent from The Liberty Times (LTN). LTN is a widely-circulated newspaper in Taiwan whose guiding ethos is "Taiwan Foremost, Liberty First", I hold steadfast to the principle of safeguarding freedom of expression, and the core tenet of our publication is Taiwan-centric perspective. With seven years of experience under my belt, I have focused my reporting efforts primarily on foreign policy and political issues, as well as cross-strait affairs. My daily work involves handling breaking news and printed articles, sometimes producing features, character profiles, and exclusive reports. I have experience in independent overseas reporting too, including covering several WHA and APEC conferences. Besides, In 2017, I was recommended by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to represent Taiwan's media in the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) visit to the US, which was jointly funded by Taiwan's TECRO and the US State Department. In 2020, I was selected to participate in the US International Reporting Tour for Foreign Press Centers. However, due to the pandemic, the program turned to conduct virtually. Prior to my tenure at The Liberty Times, I served as a student editor for the self-media outlet "NewsEforum" during the Sunflower Movement in Taiwan. Our firsthand reporting drew over 130,000 readers in just three weeks and established our publication as one of the foremost voices in the movement.

Academic outcomes of flipped classroom learning: a meta-analysis
The flipped classroom (FC) approach, which combines online learning with face-to-face activities, aims to enhance active learning by engaging students before class. Despite its popularity, the efficacy of FC remains inconclusive, with mixed results across various studies and disciplines. Meta-analyses from China show significant benefits in nursing education, but broader reviews reveal inconsistent outcomes. This comprehensive meta-analysis of 46 studies across multiple disciplines and countries highlights the need for standardized research methods and reporting to better understand the FC's effectiveness. Future research should focus on higher cognitive outcomes and longitudinal assessments to evaluate the FC's impact.

Taiwan-EU BIA Negotiations Delayed, MOFA: Seeking Creative Ways to Enhance Cooperation
Taiwan has long expressed its desire to initiate Bilateral Investment Agreement (BIA) negotiations with the European Union, but progress has been limited. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan is now seeking creative ways to enhance bilateral economic and trade cooperation, especially in regulatory alignment, tax cooperation, and supply chain security, despite the lack of significant progress in formal negotiations. The European Parliament has repeatedly urged the EU to start the preliminary work for BIA negotiations, and Taiwan continues to raise the issue during regular economic dialogues with the EU and its member states.
China's Military Budget Increase Exceeds GDP Growth, Analysts: Party-State's Sense of Insecurity Intensifies
China's 2023 military budget has increased by 7.2%, significantly outpacing the GDP growth target of around 5%, raising concerns about China's perceived threat. Experts within China argue the increase is moderate and necessary, while observers suggest it reflects China's strong sense of insecurity both domestically and internationally. The budget increase is part of a trend of single-digit growth over eight years, nearly double the defense budget of 2013. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang emphasized the implementation of Xi Jinping's military strategy, aiming to prepare for potential conflicts. Despite economic challenges from the pandemic, China continues to expand its military budget, with a focus on Taiwan and global dominance. Japanese and Taiwanese experts suggest the increase is not solely for Taiwan but also reflects tensions with the United States and other Asia-Pacific nations. Chinese scholars defend the budget as proportionally low compared to other major countries, while critics argue China's military growth over the past 30 years is unprecedented and aimed at regional hegemony. The expansion has led to increased military vigilance among Asian neighbors, the US, and its allies, particularly due to heightened tensions across the Taiwan Strait.
