The study investigates the role of the phi-class GST enzyme PfGSTF2 in conferring resistance to the herbicide quizalofop-p-ethyl in the weed Polypogon fugax. The research identifies that PfGSTF2 facilitates the detoxification of quizalofop acid through GSH conjugation, contributing to herbicide resistance. The study also explores the expression levels of PfGSTF2 and PfGSTF58, demonstrating that PfGSTF2 is more highly expressed in resistant populations. Transgenic rice experiments confirm that overexpression of PfGSTF2 confers resistance, while CRISPR/Cas9 knockout of the rice ortholog increases sensitivity. The findings highlight the potential for genetic manipulation of GST genes to develop herbicide-tolerant crops.

Hemophilia, a rare X chromosome-linked bleeding disorder, affects over 65,000 patients in China. The country has made significant strides in hemophilia care over the past 40 years, establishing a collaborative network of treatment centers and continually updating treatment guidelines. A national survey conducted in 2021 revealed that children with hemophilia in China generally receive earlier diagnosis and treatment compared to adults, leading to better clinical outcomes and higher health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Despite these advancements, there is still a need to improve the health status and social adaptation of hemophilia patients, particularly adults. The study emphasizes the importance of timely and prophylactic treatment and highlights the necessity of increasing equity and social support for hemophilia patients in China.
