A British national, I’m based in Rome and have over 25 years of experience in broadcast journalism. I worked for a television news agency in London before moving to Rome where I was employed as a journalist/presenter for Vatican Radio. In the 1990’s I spent two years in France and worked for Radio France International in Paris in a similar capacity. After returning to Rome I resumed working on a regular basis for Vatican Radio but also have contributed as a freelancer to other radio stations in Europe. When a major story breaks here, I am often called by the BBC World Service to do Q & A’s when they are looking for an expert on Vatican affairs which is my speciality. Among the many stories I have covered were the deaths of Pope John Paul II, the resignation of Pope Benedict and the conclaves to elect their respective successors. I speak fluent Italian and French.

Save the Children: Yemen peace talks last chance to prevent famine
The article discusses the severe humanitarian crisis in Yemen, highlighting the warning from the charity Save the Children about the risk of famine if the peace talks fail. The warring parties in Yemen have agreed to a cessation of hostilities starting April 10th, with peace talks scheduled for April 18th. The UN reports that nearly half of Yemen's provinces are on the brink of famine, with 82 percent of the population in need of humanitarian aid. Over 320,000 children face severe malnutrition, and the conflict has significantly worsened the situation. Grant Pritchard, from Save the Children, emphasizes the urgent need for peace to prevent further deterioration of the country's humanitarian condition.
Transparency International calls for action after Panama Papers
Transparency International, an anti-corruption NGO, is urging world leaders to ban secret and anonymous companies following the 'Panama Papers' leak. The leak exposed offshore holdings of politicians and officials, highlighting the use of tax havens to conceal wealth. Maximilian Heywood, the Advocacy Coordinator for Transparency International, expressed hope that the scandal will prompt governments to take decisive action against such secretive practices. He emphasized that the leaked data is just a small indication of a much larger issue, with an estimated 7 trillion dollars hidden in offshore tax havens. Heywood advocates for a simple technical solution: a public register revealing company ownership. However, he acknowledges the lack of political will, influenced by vested and self-interests, to implement such measures.
Pope Francis: The Man, The Pope and the Challenge of Change
David Willey, a BBC correspondent with over 40 years of experience reporting on the Vatican, discusses Pope Francis' impact on the Catholic Church and the Vatican since his election three years ago. Willey, who has written a book about Pope Francis, highlights the Pope's unexpected election, his humble approach, and his efforts to reform the Roman Curia. He also notes the Pope's use of metaphors and his focus on marginalized communities, such as his visit to Lampedusa to address the refugee crisis. Willey does not explicitly call Pope Francis a revolutionary but acknowledges his significant influence on changing the mindset of Catholics and the Vatican.
