Members of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) allege that military and civilian authorities in Pakistan's Swat Valley are imposing restrictions ahead of a crucial protest on April 29. PTM leaders claim that local officials are pressuring residents to avoid the protest, refusing to print campaign materials, and denying access to venues. The PTM is demanding accountability for civilian suffering during years of unrest and military operations in Swat. The Pakistani military denies accusations of ill-treatment and extrajudicial actions. Despite government negotiations, PTM leaders report arrests and continued persecution of their supporters.
