Squatters Ordered to Vacate South Sudan School Lands
South Sudan’s Vice President for Service Cluster, Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, has issued a four-week ultimatum to occupants of illegal structures on school lands in Juba, Wau, Rumbek, and Yambio to vacate or face legal action. The government plans to carry out demolitions in compliance with court directives. Akol highlighted the issue of land grabbing by unnamed individuals and the negative impact of activities such as shisha smoking near school premises on pupils. Despite previous military orders to prevent the use of schools for military purposes, these have been ignored, prompting Akol to vow personal oversight of the removal of squatters.
