Im a Panos Pictures documentary photographer and videographer based in Bucharest, Romania, bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communications. I used to work as a photojournalist for the main newspapers in Bucharest and ten years ago I quit and start working on personal projects. My latest completed one, Pride and Concrete had started in 2010 with the support of the World Press Photo Foundation and Robert Bosch. After four years of documentation and various grants it came to an end, with a printed book, short film, website and a travelling photo exhibition. It was shown as solo in Bucharest, Negresti (heart of the documented community), Berlin, London, and many other places as a group exhibition. The Black Sea project, started in 2010 with a grant from German Marshall Fund and is still ongoing. Im travelling around the Black Sea alone or my friends from www.theblacksea.eu, keep adding new stories mainly about the way that the mass tourism mixes with the recent growing tensions. It’s been exhibited in Brazil My reportages have been published by: Sunday Times Magazine, Business Week, The New Statesman, 6 Mois, New York Times, As Magazine, Esquire, Southern Weekly Metropolis, etc. Corporate and NGO’s clients include: Robert Bosch, Wella International, Orange, Ericsson, Renault, WSPA and Discovery Channel. Recent Awards: 2015: Documentary award, Humanity Photo Awards – China, Unesco & CFA 2015: Daily life mention, China Press International In the past: Picture of the Year award of excellence (USA), won twice the best photojournalist in Romania

‘The Black Sea’ – started in 2010 and still ongoing, has taken him to countries all around the sea and been partially financed with a grant from the German Martial Fund. Having grown up in Constanta, on the shores of the sea, Petrut has a fascination with the strange mix of holiday making and localized tensions and conflicts that have punctuated the past couple of decades in the region. ‘Black Sea’ is an ongoing project and Petrut continues to travel whenever possible to this invisible frontier which today mark the new Iron Curtain.
