About Peter
Peter Felstead is a defence and aerospace journalist based in Horley, United Kingdom. Prior to going freelance in January 2022, Peter worked for defence and security stalwart Janes for almost 33 years.

After joining Janes in 1989, Peter worked as a sub editor and reporter for Janes Defence Weekly (JDW) for several years and then moved on to Janes Intelligence Review, which he edited for three years until the end of 1999. After a year as managing editor of the company’s Security Strategic Business Unit, Peter then became the company’s first web content managing editor: a period in which he also worked as a JDW special correspondent, reporting from global hotspots such as Kosovo and Baghdad.

Appointed as the editor of JDW in March 2004, Peter occupied that role until he left the company in December 2021 to pursue a freelance career.

In 2018 Peter won the inaugural John Morrocco Award for Best In-Depth Defense Reporting at the Defence Media Awards (DMAs) in Washington, DC, for a feature article focusing on ballistic missile defence. In 2022 he won the DMA for the Best Military Propulsion submission with a feature focusing on hybrid electric drive technology in armoured vehicles.

Peter now works as the new editor for European Security and Defence magazine.
