Nepal has seen a significant increase in COVID-19 cases following the easing of quarantine measures that began on June 11 after being implemented in March. Health Ministry spokesperson Jageshwor Gautam announced 538 new cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 10,099, indicating the worst phase of the pandemic. Despite reopening businesses with hygiene conditions, citizens in Kathmandu were observed not wearing masks and disregarding social distancing. Former Director of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, Dr. Baburam Marasini, emphasized the importance of masks, physical distancing, and handwashing. The current death toll is 24, with 2,224 recoveries. Quarantine measures will be further relaxed in stages, and a traffic system based on license plate numbers is in effect, while educational institutions, restaurants, hotels, and all flights remain suspended.
