Fresh sugarcane bagasse samples were collected from Hacienda 'Puro Bravo' in Manabí, Ecuador. A Completely Randomized Design with a 3x2 factorial arrangement was used, examining different urea inclusion levels (0, 3, and 5%) and fermentation times (30 and 44 days). The optimal treatment was 5% urea with 30 days of fermentation, showing improved nutritional values, increased crude protein, and reduced fiber content. The results were highly significant, indicating a strong association between degradability and nutritional value.

Results indicate that ternary mortars exhibit improved mechanical performance compared to binary mortars, with the combined use of RC, FA, and MgO enhancing compressive strength and reducing energy consumption per MPa. The study concludes that incorporating these materials can significantly reduce the ecological footprint of cementitious materials while maintaining mechanical performance.

This study evaluates the durability of sustainable concrete with the incorporation of reactive magnesium oxide (MgO) and fly ash (FA) as partial replacements for Portland cement. The research found that while there are performance losses in terms of water absorption by capillarity and immersion, carbonation depth, and resistance to chloride penetration, the simultaneous incorporation of MgO and FA caused performance losses lower than the sum of the losses of their individual incorporation. The study also observed that over time, the difference in performance relative to the reference concrete tends to decrease due to the slow hydration of these alternative materials. The research suggests that the combined use of MgO and FA in concrete production can improve sustainability and reduce CO2 emissions, with the potential for better performance at later ages. Further research is needed to optimize the use of these materials in concrete structures.
