The Sanctuary in Djunis
Marko Rupena's documentary photography project 'The Sanctuary in Djunis' is featured in Edge of Humanity Magazine. The project captures the Monastery of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos in Serbia, a sacred site where a little girl in the 19th century saw the Most Holy Theotokos, leading to the establishment of a chapel. Over time, the chapel was rebuilt and expanded into a larger church with the blessing of Saint Nikolaj Velimirović. The site is now a significant religious destination where thousands of Orthodox believers gather annually for a feast day, participating in overnight vigils, eucharistic liturgies, and awaiting visions of the Holy Mother. The article provides a cultural and religious insight into this Serbian tradition through Rupena's photography.
