Vik Muniz, a Brazilian artist, transformed contemporary art perception in Brazil and engaged with multinational corporations to support street children. His life changed after being shot in the leg in 1982, which led him to use the compensation to study in the USA. Muniz grew up in a São Paulo favela and later moved to the US, living as an undocumented immigrant in New York's East Village. He became known for his unique artistic approach influenced by TV and electronic media. Muniz's work includes a project at the world's largest landfill, Gramacho, and his documentary 'Waste Land' was Oscar-nominated in 2010. He is also focused on children's education, exemplified by his project 'La escola do Vidigal' set to open in March.
