Since 2015, armed gangs controlling the 34 districts of Cité Soleil, the largest slum in the Caribbean, have observed a truce, establishing a fragile peace that has allowed for development initiatives. This peace has led to the transformation of former gang leaders into social agents who now run foundations addressing community needs. These foundations, supported by powerful businessmen and sometimes government authorities, invest in health, education, and economic activities. Despite the reduction in violence, the presence of arms remains a concern, with the potential for renewed conflict. The article highlights the need for state intervention to provide alternatives and reinforce peace.
