Zack Mwale, a 27-year-old innovator from Mchinji, Malawi, has created a device called 'black wing' to address water scarcity issues in rural areas. The equipment, which aids in drawing water, was developed in partnership with an American, Mike Dits, who was inspired by Mwale's previous invention, the Nsima Cooker. The black wing is now providing safe drinking water to about 30 families in Eliza Village, overcoming the challenges of contaminated water sources. Mwale's innovation has not only improved access to clean water but is also expected to create job opportunities and training for the youth, contributing to the reduction of unemployment in Malawi. Previously, Mwale invented an automatic door in 2009 and a phone-operated Nsima cooker in 2015.

A 53-year-old man in Mchinji, Malawi, has been arrested for allegedly raping and impregnating his 16-year-old granddaughter. The victim, who had been living with her grandfather, Chaphankhwani Wilson, after her parents' death, was coerced into having sex in exchange for school fees. The incident was reported to the Mchinji Police, and medical examinations at Mchinji District Hospital confirmed the pregnancy. The police have charged Wilson with incest and he is awaiting court proceedings.
