The Tibetan snowcock (Tetraogallus tibetanus) is a high-altitude bird native to the mountainous regions of the Himalayas and the Tibetan Plateau. It belongs to the pheasant family and is known for its robust body, grayish plumage, and distinctive black-and-white markings on its throat and chest. Adapted to harsh alpine environments, it is often found at elevations between 4,000 and 5,500 meters, inhabiting rocky slopes and grassy areas. The Tibetan snowcock feeds on seeds, grasses, and small insects, and its cryptic coloring provides excellent camouflage against predators. This bird is admired for its resilience to extreme conditions and its ability to thrive in some of the world’s most remote and rugged landscapes.
Buddhist prayer flags are colorful rectangular cloths traditionally used in Tibetan Buddhism to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. The flags come in five colors—blue, white, red, green, and yellow—representing the elements of sky, air, fire, water, and earth. Printed with mantras, symbols, and prayers, the flags are believed to carry blessings to the surrounding environment as the wind blows through them. They are often hung in high places such as mountain passes, temples, or homes to spread goodwill and harmony. Over time, the flags fade and disintegrate, symbolizing the impermanence of life and the cycle of renewal, aligning with Buddhist teachings.
