About Kapil
I have pursued my post-graduation from the Indian Institute of Journalism and New Media in "Broadcast Journalism" with "Documentary" as my subject of specialization.

When it comes to news, I try to bring out unexplored angles. I always aspired to be a part of the intellectual and creative team.

As a journalist, I would like to cover all the stories ranging from the grass-root to international level.

I am particularly better at searching new story ideas or following up ideas, researching for new stories, covering it including the video shooting and writing. My strength is long-form journalism.

My mornings do not turn into the afternoon without reading at least 2 newspapers. I am particularly keen about independent and unbiased reporting and would happily be a part of it.

Apart from this, making documentary films interests me. In my free time, I pursue it as a hobby.

I am comfortable in reporting Politics, Business, Human and Gender Rights, Media, Technology, Environment, Crime, Travel and General News.

Israeli Iron Dome joins US radar in Marines' new air defense system

30 Oct 2024  |  interestingengineering.com
The US Marine Corps successfully completed its first live-fire training with a new air defense system integrating the Iron Dome Interceptor, developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Raytheon. The system, known as SkyHunter, is an American adaptation of the Iron Dome, designed for medium-range intercept capability. The training demonstrated the system's proficiency and marked a significant milestone towards its operational deployment. The collaboration between the US and Israel highlights the Iron Dome's unique capabilities and potential for expanded use among US allies. A new production plant in Arkansas will enhance the system's availability.

New clues reveal Mars supported life 3.9 billion years ago

30 Oct 2024  |  interestingengineering.com
New research from Harvard's Paleomagnetics Lab suggests that Mars' magnetic field, crucial for supporting life, may have persisted until 3.9 billion years ago, longer than previously thought. Led by Sarah Steele, the study used simulations and computer modeling to challenge the assumption that Mars' dynamo shut down early. The findings, based on the analysis of Martian meteorite Allan Hills 84001, propose that the planet's magnetic field experienced polarity reversals, explaining weak magnetic signals in large impact basins. This research offers new insights into Mars' habitability timeline and planetary magnetic fields.

Strykers upgraded with drones to kill nuclear, bio, chemical threats

29 Oct 2024  |  interestingengineering.com
The US Army's 7th Infantry Division has tested a Stryker vehicle equipped with a drone to detect and neutralize nuclear, biological, and chemical threats. The Stryker Nuclear Biological Chemical Reconnaissance Vehicle (NBCRV) is enhanced with the Sensor Suite Upgrade (SSU), allowing it to perform autonomous reconnaissance and reduce soldier exposure to threats. The SSU integrates six CBRN sensors with unmanned systems, enabling rapid detection and communication of hazards. This modernization effort, involving the US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command and the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense, aims to keep pace with evolving threats and improve operational efficiency.

Hungry algae found, could eat carbon in oceans naturally

29 Oct 2024  |  interestingengineering.com
Researchers from the United States and Italy have discovered a new strain of cyanobacteria, named 'Chonkus', in volcanic ocean vents off the coast of Sicily. This strain is highly efficient at growing in CO2-rich environments, making it a promising candidate for carbon sequestration and bioproduction. The strain, UTEX 3222, exhibits traits such as dense growth and a natural tendency to sink, which are advantageous for industrial processing. The discovery could enhance the efficiency of producing products like omega-3 fatty acids and spirulina. Samples are available for further research from the University of Texas, Austin.

World’s oldest Stone Age ochre mine discovered, dating back 40,000 years

28 Oct 2024  |  interestingengineering.com
Researchers, led by Brandi L. MacDonald at the University of Missouri, have discovered the world's oldest ochre mine in Eswatini, dating back 40,000 years. Utilizing advanced technologies such as neutron activation analysis and Raman spectroscopy, the team mapped the distribution of ochre and explored its historical significance in human society. The study provides insights into early technological innovations and the development of human cognition and social networks.

Dual-action cancer therapy kills tumors, delivers chemo in one go

28 Oct 2024  |  interestingengineering.com
MIT researchers have developed a dual-action cancer therapy using microparticles that deliver both thermal and chemotherapy directly into tumors. This innovative approach aims to reduce side effects and improve patient outcomes compared to traditional treatments. In mouse studies, the treatment successfully eradicated tumors and extended lifespans. The therapy uses molybdenum disulfide for phototherapy and integrates chemotherapy drugs within a biocompatible polymer matrix. The researchers plan to advance to larger animal models and clinical trials, with potential applications for various solid tumors.

India showcases enhanced capability of Akash weapon system

04 Apr 2024  |  janes.com
The Indian Air Force and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) showcased the enhanced capability of the Akash semi-mobile surface-to-air missile system, successfully intercepting four unmanned aerial targets from a single firing unit. The system's central acquisition radar detected the targets at a range of 150 km and altitude of 18,000 m, coordinating with the Group Control Centre to deploy two Akash Air Force Launchers armed with missiles to intercept the targets at a distance of 25 km. This demonstration marked India as the first country to engage four aerial targets simultaneously at 25 km ranges using a single firing unit.

Bangladesh Army test-fires CS/AA3 anti-aircraft guns

18 Mar 2024  |  www.janes.com
The Bangladesh Army's Adhoc 57 Air Defence Regiment Artillery conducted its first test-firing of two CS/AA3 twin-barrel anti-aircraft gun systems at the Inanistha AD Firing Range in Cox's Bazar. The CS/AA3, a low-altitude, short-range air-defense weapon, is capable of hitting ground and air targets at a maximum strike range of 4 km. Manufactured by China North Industries Group Corporation Limited (Norinco), the system is a license-produced version of Switzerland's Oerlikon GDF-002 and is designed to intercept low and slow-flying threats. The induction of at least three CS/AA3 systems into the Bangladesh Army has been confirmed.

Update: Pyongyang fired artillery shells into waters near border, says South Korea

05 Jan 2024  |  www.janes.com
North Korea fired over 200 artillery shells into waters near South Korean islands on 5 January 2024, with no casualties or damages reported. The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) labeled the action as a provocation linked to North Korea's withdrawal from a 2018 inter-Korean military agreement. The JCS, in collaboration with the US military, is analyzing the incident and planning responsive measures. Subsequent artillery drills were conducted by North Korea on 6 and 7 January, firing additional shells into the buffer zone.
