Cirque du Soleil Kooza chef gives performers a 'taste of home'
French-Canadian chef Julie Gauthier, head chef for Cirque du Soleil Kooza, aims to provide a 'taste of home' for the show's 150 performers and crew members from over 20 countries. With a team of three assistant chefs and eight kitchen crew members, she prepares a variety of dishes, including vegetarian options, six days a week. Miss Tay Jing Jing Perlyne, a 20-year-old student at Singapore Management University (SMU), can now focus on her studies without financial worries thanks to the SMU Access scheme. This initiative, launched in March, provides full funding for up to four years of university studies for eligible candidates based on household economic circumstances. All 13 recipients of the inaugural batch, including Miss Tay, also received the Quantedge Foundation Scholarship, which was funded by an $8 million endowment from the local philanthropic charity. The scheme aims to ensure that financial difficulties do not hinder students from pursuing higher education.
Running to crazy lengths for good causes
Local ultra-endurance athlete Gerrard Lin, known as 'Ah Siao,' has undertaken extreme challenges to raise awareness for various causes. Tampines viaduct incident's survivors thankful to be alive
Two Chinese national workers survived a viaduct collapse at Upper Changi Road East, with one worker from China dying and ten others injured. The injured were taken to Changi General Hospital, where seven were admitted, including two in intensive care. A Singapore Civil Defence Force firefighter, Eka Putra, who was caught in a taxi explosion, is recovering from first-degree burns and is now at home.
