UNL-TAPS: Reflections on Seven Years of Irrigation and Nitrogen Management

01 Oct 2024  |  CropWatch
The Testing Ag Performance Solutions (TAPS) program has completed its seventh year, focusing on irrigation and nitrogen management for corn at the West Central Research, Extension and Education Center in North Platte, Nebraska. The study highlights significant year-to-year variability in corn yield response to irrigation and nitrogen fertilizer rates, influenced by weather conditions and soil factors. The program has led to the adoption of new agricultural technologies and management practices among participants. The findings emphasize the importance of using scientific methods and tools for irrigation scheduling and nitrogen management to optimize yields and reduce costs.

Comparative study of SPI success factors in global and in-house environment for large-scale software companies

24 Jul 2024  |  PeerJ
The study identifies and compares software process improvement (SPI) success factors in global software development (GSD) and in-house development environments for large-scale software companies. Through systematic literature reviews and industrial surveys, 39 SPI success factors for GSD and 37 for in-house development were identified, with 17 common factors. The research highlights that factors like allocation of resources, teamwork, and communication are more critical in GSD, while senior management commitment, training, and reward schemes are more important in in-house environments.

Efficacy of Acetazolamide in Refractory Epilepsy Management: A Quasi-Experimental Study

19 May 2024  |  pafmj.org
The study evaluates the efficacy of Acetazolamide in managing refractory epilepsy through a quasi-experimental design conducted at the Outpatient Neurology Department, Allied Hospital, Faisalabad, Pakistan, from September 2020 to February 2021. A total of 260 patients were divided into two groups: one receiving Acetazolamide plus standard antiepileptic drugs and the other receiving a placebo plus standard antiepileptic drugs. Unveiling India’s dual face

25 Apr 2024  |  Pakistan Observer
Pakistan has been a victim of terrorism for over two decades, suffering greatly from terrorist activities. Despite expectations of peace following the US withdrawal and Afghan Taliban takeover, terrorist activities have surged, with Afghan Taliban allegedly supporting TTP. Pakistan has urged the Afghan Interim Government to act against terrorists using Afghan soil, a stance validated by the UN Security Council. India, under Modi's regime, is accused of exploiting terrorist havens in Afghanistan to target Pakistan, while simultaneously investing in Afghan infrastructure as a non-kinetic strategy to tarnish Pakistan's image. Pakistan has presented evidence of India's involvement in training and sponsoring terrorist groups, urging the global community to take action against India to maintain regional and global peace.

Balochistan's path to prosperity with innovation and investment

24 Apr 2024  |  The Express Tribune
Balochistan, rich in natural resources and strategically significant, remains underdeveloped with 60% of its population living below the poverty line. The Pakistani government has secured a $1 billion investment from Saudi Arabia for the Reko Diq copper and gold project, expected to boost employment and economic conditions. The province also contributes significantly to livestock and agriculture, but lacks modern practices. Embracing innovation, such as AI in farming, and vocational training can enhance productivity and economic gains. A holistic approach involving local empowerment and modern methods is essential for Balochistan's prosperity.

Machine Learning Models for Water Quality Prediction: A Comprehensive Analysis and Uncertainty Assessment in Mirpurkhas, Sindh, Pakistan

25 Mar 2024  |  MDPI
Groundwater in Mirpurkhas, Sindh, Pakistan, faces contamination from industrial and agricultural activities, necessitating accurate water quality assessment. This study employs machine learning models, including Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, SVM, KNN, and Decision Trees, to predict the Water Quality Index (WQI) with high accuracy. Random Forest and Gradient Boosting achieved 95% and 96% accuracy, respectively. The research also includes an uncertainty analysis using the R-factor, enhancing the reliability of predictions. The findings underscore the efficacy of AI in water quality assessment, providing a comprehensive understanding of groundwater quality and aiding in informed decision-making.

Uncertainty Analysis of Predictive Models for Water Quality Index: Comparative Analysis of XGBoost, Random Forest, SVM, KNN, Gradient Boosting, and Decision Tree Algorithms

15 Feb 2024  |  www.preprints.org
Groundwater is crucial for drinking, irrigation, and industrial uses, but contamination from human activities necessitates accurate water quality assessment. This study used the Water Quality Index (WQI) and machine learning models to predict water quality in Mirpurkash, Sindh. Random forest and gradient boosting algorithms achieved the highest accuracy at 99%, followed by SVM and XGBoost at 95% and 93%, respectively. KNN and Decision Trees had lower accuracy rates of 88% and 87%. An uncertainty analysis using the R-factor was also conducted to assess the reliability of the predictions, enhancing decision-making processes related to groundwater utilization.

Genome-Wide Bioinformatics Analysis of SWEET Gene Family and Expression Verification of Candidate PaSWEET Genes in Potentilla anserina

30 Jan 2024  |  MDPI
The study identifies and analyzes 23 SWEET gene family members in the Potentilla anserina genome, categorizing them into four subfamilies. The research explores the genes' physicochemical properties, chromosomal localization, phylogenetic comparisons, and expression patterns in various tissues. Key findings include the high expression of PaSWEET7, PaSWEET9, and PaSWEET12 in swollen tubers, suggesting their role in tuber growth and development. The study provides a foundation for future research on SWEET genes and their potential in enhancing the molecular breeding of Potentilla anserina.

Rising Crop Costs To Land Farmers In Hot Waters

13 Dec 2023  |  blogs.dunyanews.tv
The Punjab caretaker government's increase in water rates for Rabi and Kharif crops has been criticized for not considering food security and the impact on small farmers. The erratic water rates and uncontrolled fertilizer prices are causing difficulties for farmers. The Punjab Water Act remains unimplemented, which could have ensured fair water distribution and efficient resource management. The irrigation department is also criticized for its mismanagement and the impracticality of the current water pricing system. Suggestions include implementing a technology-based water distribution system and placing related departments under one administrative umbrella for better coordination.
