Britain Mourns: Lines Stretch for Miles as Queen Elizabeth Lies in State

14 Sep 2022  |  www.nytimes.com
On Wednesday, the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II was moved from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster, accompanied by a ceremonial procession. The public was allowed to pay their respects in Westminster Hall starting at 5 p.m. local time. The procession included King Charles III, his siblings, and his sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. The event was marked by military honors and a service conducted by Archbishop Justin Welby. Prince Andrew and Prince Harry, due to their unique circumstances, did not wear military uniforms. The event is part of the national mourning for the queen, with the public viewing expected to attract hundreds of thousands. Westminster Hall, a site with deep historical significance, will host the queen's body until the funeral.
