The ongoing disagreement between Ghanaian and Burkinabe transporters
A dispute persists between the Organisation des transporteurs routiers du Faso (Otraf) and a group of dissenters including a union and a transit company based in Ghana. The dissenters criticize Otraf's control over freight transport activities, particularly from the Ghanaian corridor. Romuald Sawadogo of J&E Shipping describes the imposition of a 'loading slip' since 2014, which has caused difficulties for transporters. Otraf's president, Issoufou Maiga, denies any wrongdoing, stating that their contributions range from 300 to 35,000 CFA francs and that they spend 1.5 million CFA francs monthly on assistance for accidents and misunderstandings. Tasséré Ouédraogo, a representative of the Union des chauffeurs routiers du Burkina (UCRB), supports Otraf's actions, criticizing the presence of Ghanaian trucks in Ouagadougou and the hardships faced by Burkinabe drivers in Ghana. The battle for freight control in a sector where over 80% of Burkina's freight is transported by road is expected to see further developments.
