Countries around the world commemorated World Children's Day on November 20, as per the international convention signed by 191 countries, including Bahrain in 1990. However, the Bahraini authorities' commitment to this convention, especially after the protests that began on February 14, 2011, is questionable. Human rights organizations have documented the deaths of at least 13 Bahraini children at the hands of security forces, sexual harassment, torture, and the revocation of nationality. Various human rights organizations and activists have expressed concerns about the treatment of children in Bahrain, including arbitrary arrests, torture, and denial of nationality to newborns of parents whose citizenship has been revoked. The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child has recommended immediate investigation into torture allegations and legal action against perpetrators. Despite laws and directives for child protection, the situation remains dire, with children being targeted for their involvement in movements demanding freedom, justice, and democracy.
