I am Giovanni Bello, a freelance journalist, photographer and video editor based in Florianópolis, State of Santa Catarina, Brazil. I'm also always coming and going from São Paulo. Surface Properties of a Biocompatible Thermoplastic Polyurethane and Its Anti-Adhesive Effect against E. coli and S. aureus
The study investigates the surface properties of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and its anti-adhesive effects against E. coli and S. aureus. Using brush and bar coater deposition techniques, the research confirms that these methods do not alter TPU's properties. The study demonstrates that the modified TPU surfaces exhibit significant anti-adhesive effects against planktonic bacteria and biofilms, maintaining biocompatibility and hemocompatibility. The findings suggest that TPU films modified with brush and bar coater techniques are suitable for biomedical and pharmaceutical applications, with potential to reduce bacterial adhesion on medical devices.
