Esma Cakir (Istanbul, 1980) is a Turkish freelance video and photo journalist based in Rome. Since 2001 she has been covering politics, immigration, religion, feature stories, crime and social issues in Turkey, Italy, Vatican City and other countries such as Niger, Macedonia, Albania, Georgia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. She has collaborated with several national and international press agencies, newspapers and TV channels such as CBC and France24 (Spanish edition). Her articles, interviews and reports are regularly published on all-news channel, NTV (Turkey), DHA agency (Turkey), Euronews (Turkish) and Deutsche Welle in Turkish language. Former president of the Foreign Press Association in Italy for the three times (2018-19, 2022-23 and 2023-24), founded in 1912 in Rome and composed of about 400 journalists from over 55 countries with offices in Rome and Milan.
