Eleanore Vega is an award-winning veteran journalist based in Los Angeles with over 30 years of experience managing newsrooms in both Spanish and English markets. As West Coast Bureau Chief for CBS News, she was responsible for the coverage and breaking news of 15 western states, including Mexico and Central America. She managed large teams in the Los Angeles and San Francisco bureaus. In addition to her domestic news-gathering experience as a producer, she covered major political events throughout Latin America, including several Mexican presidential elections, a coup in Venezuela, the drug cartel violence, immigration, poverty, and cultural profiles of various Latino communities. She served as a Los Angeles-based producer for the CBS Evening News and as acting deputy bureau chief. Before joining CBS, Vega was an investigative producer for the KCBS-TV Special Assignment unit, the CBS-owned station in Los Angeles. Her investigations were vehicles to change laws affecting underserved communities and championed enforcement and oversight. Vega is the recipient of various awards, including several Emmys, Golden Mike awards, and an Investigative Reporters Editors award. She has held various management positions, including investigative producer, network producer, line producer, special projects producer, executive producer, and assignment desk manager at Univision, Telemundo, KCBS, and CBS News. Vega has worked diligently to promote diversity and inclusion in all the newsrooms she has worked at and continues to be a mentor for young journalists entering the profession. Eleanore joined the Society of Professional Journalists Diversity & Inclusion committee in 2019 and helped revamp the Diversity Leadership Fellowship program. Vega took on the role of chair of the SPJ D&I Committee in 2021. She continues to promote the college diversity training program, teaching students how to cover communities of color and strive for enterprising reporting.
