Ghanaian journalists prevented from covering African Union Summit
A group of Ghanaian journalists accompanying Vice President John Dramani Mahama were prevented from covering an African Union Summit in Ethiopia on May 25, 2011, by Ethiopian Revenue and Customs Authority officials who seized their cameras, claiming a lack of permit for professional video equipment. The journalists were delayed for three hours and had to pay storage fees to retrieve their cameras on May 27. Ghana's Ambassador to Ethiopia, Kwesi Quartey, criticized the treatment of the journalists and planned to petition the authorities.
