The Able Women of Byazhin Across: Pioneers of Community Road Repair
In Byazhin Across, a community in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council of the FCT, Nigeria, a group of women known as the 'Able Women' have taken it upon themselves to repair the deteriorating road in their neighborhood. The initiative began when the men responsible for the task failed to account for the funds collected for road repairs. The women's group, initially 19 but now 10, have not only improved the road but also assisted in delivering two babies during emergencies. They fund the repairs through daily contributions from tricycle riders and other motorists. Despite challenges, including arrests and lack of government support, the women persist in their efforts, with the community recognizing their dedication to improving local infrastructure and their passion for serving humanity.
