Clashes in Congo as opposition calls for ballot rerun
Main opposition candidates in DR Congo have denounced the recent election as fraudulent and demanded a rerun. Clashes erupted in Kinshasa as police used tear gas against protesters. The government banned the protest, citing electoral process integrity. President Etienne Tshisekedi leads with nearly 80% of the vote, while Moïse Katumbi and Martin Fayulu trail behind. The election faced logistical issues, and the opposition accused the electoral commission of fraud, which the commission denied. The country, lacking basic infrastructure, saw voting extended in some areas due to delays. The elections did not occur in parts of the east due to insecurity.
