Beer Shéba Farm: Agroecology at the Heart of the Sahel
Beer Shéba Farm, located near Mbour, Senegal, has transformed a once barren Sahel landscape into a lush, productive area through agroecology, without using chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Founded by Éric Toumieux, the farm has successfully drilled for fresh water and now practices permaculture and agroforestry, teaching students from across Africa. Techniques such as natural regeneration assisted agroforestry and the use of compost, mulch, and termites have led to significantly higher crop yields. The farm also produces Moringa powder and is known for its high-quality meats, raised without vaccines by leveraging natural ecosystems. Beer Shéba is expanding its impact by building a hospital for local villagers and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
