About Andy
I’m a documentary cinematographer and director with a focus on creating character-driven and investigative documentaries that shed light on important human rights and environmental issues within the Southeast-Asian region.

My latest film “The Clearing” follows a group of young environmentalists in Cambodia as they prepare to face imprisonment for their advocacy work. I’ve also worked on a range of investigations, from exposing the connections between major fashion labels and deforestation, all the way to documenting illicit fishing off the Cambodian coast.

Over the last seven years in Asia, I’ve worked on documentaries for the BBC, CBS, South China Morning Post, American Broadcast Company, Insider, and Mongabay and my stills have also been published by The New York Times, dpa, and Coda Story. I often collaborate with non-profit organizations too, including Human Rights Watch, Global Witness, Equitable Cambodia, and Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust.

Lucky enough to call Cambodia my home for the past five years, I am not only based here, but also open to traveling both regionally and worldwide for assignments. I speak Khmer comfortably and have years of experience shooting in remote environments.

I am also a recipient of the Pulitzer Center and a member of Ruom Collective.

How ‘shrinkflation’ is impacting your cereal – and making you pay more for less

26 Mar 2024  |  theguardian.com
Food manufacturers, including Kellogg's, are engaging in 'shrinkflation' by reducing product sizes without lowering prices, complicating price comparisons during a cost-of-living crisis. Deakin University research found that seven Kellogg's cereal boxes in Australia had decreased in size since 2019. Kellogg's, now Kellanova, cited high production costs and inflationary pressures for the changes. Supermarkets like Coles and Woolworths are working to keep prices affordable amidst rising costs. Carrefour has taken measures to inform customers about shrinkflation, unlike Australian chains. A Senate inquiry and a competition regulator probe are examining grocery pricing amid public dissatisfaction with high prices and supermarket profits.

How big are the fires burning in Australia’s north? Interactive map shows they’ve burned an area larger than Spain

15 Nov 2023  |  the Guardian
Massive bushfires have burned over 610,000 sq km in northern Australia in 2023, an area larger than Spain. The fires are attributed to high fuel loads from recent La Niña years and invasive buffel grass. Dr. Rohan Fisher from Charles Darwin University highlights the role of Indigenous land management in controlling fires and calls for more investment in large-scale fire management. The Albanese government has committed $1.3bn to double the number of Indigenous rangers and establish new protected areas. Buffel grass, which fuels more intense fires, has been implicated in recent large fires, prompting calls for it to be declared a weed.

Communities track a path of destruction through a Cambodian wildlife sanctuary

12 Oct 2023  |  Mongabay Environmental News
Veteran environmental activist San Mala and the Prey Preah Roka Community Network face increasing danger and persecution from Cambodian authorities as they document illegal logging in the Chhaeb-Preah Roka Wildlife Sanctuary. Despite the area's protected status, significant deforestation continues, exacerbated by the involvement of commercial entities like Hengfu Sugar Group and Angkor Plywood, and facilitated by local authorities and military forces. The community's efforts to expose forest crimes have led to confrontations with armed rangers and loggers, highlighting the ongoing struggle to protect Cambodia's forests.

How ‘shrinkflation’ is impacting your cereal – and making you pay more for less

05 Oct 2023  |  ca.news.yahoo.com
Big food manufacturers are downsizing products without reducing prices, a practice known as 'shrinkflation,' which complicates price comparisons during a cost-of-living crisis. Deakin University researchers found that several Kellogg's cereal boxes have shrunk since 2019. The article highlights the disparity in cereal prices and the nutritional shortcomings of cereals as meal replacements. Kellanova, formerly Kellogg's, attributes the downsizing to high production costs and supply chain pressures. Australian supermarkets are under scrutiny for their pricing practices amid public concern over rising grocery prices. The article also mentions international efforts to combat shrinkflation, such as Carrefour's labeling initiative.
