AHTA Hosts Vector Control & Mosquito Eradication Seminar
The Antigua Hotels and Tourist Association (AHTA) is taking proactive measures against the potential threat of the Zika virus by hosting a Vector Control & Mosquito Eradication Seminar. The seminar aims to educate tourism and hospitality workers on how to protect both tourists and staff from the virus. AHTA's general manager, Neil Forrester, emphasized the importance of prevention and vector control. Local vector control specialist, Brian Edwards, presented a four-pronged approach to mosquito population reduction, which includes inspection, sanitation, larvicides, and adulticides. The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) has also included monitoring and eradication in its Zika campaign. The seminar was well-received by participants, highlighting the need for awareness and protection measures against Zika, which is transmitted by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.
