What Jellyfish Know that Humans Don’t

07 Nov 2017  |  time.com
Hurricane Harvey, intensified by record sea temperatures, caused devastation in Texas, including damage to the University of Texas’ Marine Science Institute. The article connects the increasing prevalence of jellyfish blooms to human-induced changes such as global warming, pollution, and overfishing. Jellyfish are thriving in new, warmer habitats, surviving in polluted low-oxygen waters, and expanding due to the absence of predators and competitors, as seen in the Mediterranean, Yellow Sea, and off the coast of Namibia. The author argues that jellyfish blooms are indicators of marine ecosystems being out of balance and calls for better stewardship of the oceans.

At Least the War Is Over

15 Dec 2015  |  roadsandkingdoms.com

Ethnic tensions between Dinka and Nuer persist, and the peace deal signed in August is challenged by unilateral actions from President Salva Kiir. Photographer Alessandro Rota documented the humanitarian crisis, highlighting the dire conditions and the struggle for normalcy among internally displaced persons. Despite the peace agreement, the situation remains volatile with ongoing humanitarian challenges and political instability.
