I assist faculty and organisational leaders at Cork University Business School to publish aspects of their research in media outlets or branded newsletters. Working at the interface between research, industry and public engagement, during the 2018/19 academic year, I helped CUBS faculty reach over 500,000 readers on RTE Brainstorm and The Conversation. As part of my role, I also work with faculty to develop content in the thought leadership space for publication in the Irish Times Business Supplement and The Journal.ie. Before joining UCC Academy, I was Head of Rugby and Deputy Editor at Pundit Arena, where I developed strategies to boost web traffic in such a way that the company would act as a disruptor that would win the attention of sponsors, advertisers and sports marketing brands. I penned a book titled Kerry and the Royal Munster Fusiliers and wrote articles in peer-reviewed journals. One of which, Divided Loyalties: The Effect the Boer War and its Aftermath had on how Irish Nationalists interpreted the Irish Soldier Serving in the British Army was included in the inaugural edition of the British Journal of Military History alongside contributions from some of the biggest names in the field.

Sustainability: The Future of Business Strategy for SMEs
The article discusses the increasing importance of sustainability in business strategies, particularly for SMEs. Large organizations like An Post are auditing suppliers for sustainability to align with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. Companies such as Applegreen and Ryanair are voluntarily disclosing their environmental impact, anticipating mandatory reporting legislation. The article highlights the competitive advantage for businesses that integrate sustainability into their strategies and the risks for those that don't. It also points out the need for more state support and ongoing consultancy for SMEs to effectively incorporate sustainability. The article mentions the limited support currently available from Enterprise Ireland and the Local Enterprise Office, and suggests that long-term consultancy is necessary for SMEs to gain trust from buyers and change their organizational culture. The authors, Dr. Tara Shine and Madeleine Murray of Change by Degrees, and Arlene Vithaldas of UCC Academy, emphasize the role of strategic sustainability in business growth and employee engagement.

The project involves multiple stakeholders, including healthcare professionals and advocacy groups, and aims to standardize and enhance the quality of care. Personal testimonies from individuals like Jennifer Ui Dhubhgain and Con Lucey highlight the importance of this research in bringing about positive changes in maternity services.
CUBS Alumni Profile: Dermot Crowley, CEO of Dalata Hotel Group
Dermot Crowley, the CEO designate of Dalata Hotel Group plc, shared insights on the hospitality industry's challenges and opportunities at a CUBS Alumni event. Reflecting on his career, he discussed the economic difficulties during his college years in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the resilience he learned from his father's business, and the optimism he maintains for Ireland's economy. Crowley highlighted the differences between the current pandemic and past crises, emphasizing the strength of Ireland's multinational sector and the government's support schemes. He also touched on the pandemic's impact on community and work-life balance, including the rise of remote working. Despite the hospitality industry's struggles, Crowley remains hopeful, citing Dalata's financial resilience and the potential for a quick recovery post-vaccine. He believes that remote working could offer new opportunities for hotels and expects a resurgence in travel, conferencing, and events once restrictions ease.
