Gembong Nusantara

Gembong Nusantara is an Indonesia-based documentary photographer and filmmaker who is interested in telling stories about humans, culture and the environment. He studied English Literature in Universitas Sanata Dharma, Yogyakarta. While studying, he found a medium for his storytelling, photography, and started his professional career as a stringer for Associated Press Jakarta Bureau in 2009. One year later, he got a scholarship to pursue the Photojournalism Program at Konrad Adenauer ACFJ Ateneo de Manila, Philippines. He also studied Advanced Visual Story Telling at the world-renowned Danish School of Media and Journalism, Denmark in 2015.

Gembong is a part-time farmer and a lifetime father. His debut short documentary film, Agave Amica, is officially selected for Visions du Réel 2022.

He is based in Jakarta, Indonesia. He is available for assignments and commissions across Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
