Bettina Figl

Bettina Figl is a journalist, author, writing coach, and lecturer based in Vienna, Austria. She has worked in journalism since 2006, including 14 years at major Austrian daily newspapers (Salzburger Nachrichten and Wiener Zeitung). Her reporting focuses on education, social policy, climate, feminism, media, and science. She studied at the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland and the University of Vienna. Through work in the United States and the United Kingdom—including serving as the Wiener Zeitung’s U.S. correspondent and completing study and research stays in Oxford, New York City, and Portland—she combines deep local expertise with a strong understanding of international newsroom standards and expectations. Her master’s thesis on female humor in the media received the Science Award of the Chamber of Labour of Lower Austria and the Science Award of the Dr. Maria Schaumayer Foundation.
